In the interval he goes to the tavern where he tells his friends the tales of the three major loves of his life. These have been re-timed from the original theatrical release to fit the Criterion Blu-ray. They are missing five minutes or so of subs, beginning at about 1hr30min, for material which was not in the old DVD release.
